Back in September I was at PJ’s pet shop in the mall visiting the baby birds and saw that there was a new arrival up in the far upper right cage… a shy young Senegal parrot named “Toulouse” who did not want to have anything to do with anyone at all.
Over the next few weeks I made it a point to come in and talk to her and offer my hand which was wholly rejected until one day I came in and she made happy chirps and let me stroke her head.
It has been nothing but love ever since and while she rejects almost everyone, but is getting better, she loves it when I come in to spend time with her and she loves to be cuddled and scritched.
She trusts me completely…
She is a beautiful bird and in recent weeks has started talking and says “Hi baby” when I come in… 🙂
She is not the only bird in the shop that needed love and attention and over the past 4 months I have become the volunteer bird therapist and work with all the birds but I often wonder who is getting the most out of this.
Life can be very stressful and I have been battling constant pain for such a long time; I was walking to the mall as part of my daily therapy and now find I have even more reason to take that daily walk and spend an hour or two with the babies.
When you are holding such a delicate little creature in your hands and seeing how much they love you, you can forget the pain for a little while.
Knowing that these birds demand and expect to see me every day is also a great responsibility as like humans, they become attached and will mourn when they lose a favourite person.
I will continue the rest of the story here
